A simple plan for the first week of term in a new reception class. Circle time activities planned to get to know your children and a selection of activities for provision and adult supported to baseline your children in an engaging and play-based manner.

A CVC writing activity that children can complete as part of adult-led learning, a CP enhancement or an end of term assessment. Differentiated 3 ways to suit varying abilities within your class. At this point in the year it is hugely common to have some children writing initial sounds, some writing full CVC words and some using digraphs.

These form part of our carousel of morning jobs. Children write CVC words or words containing special friends independently. These follow the RWI progression and cover set 1 single sounds, set 1 digraphs and set 2 digraphs. There are 6 weeks worth, differentiated across 5 levels.

The first week of term for us is only 2 days long, so rather than do an entire plan for this, I have just done a brief overview linking to the story ‘Room on the Broom’. This is the first book that we are going to explore using Drawing Club so seemed nice to link it all in together and immerse the children.
